Does a female cat in heat that runs away ever return home?

she was on antibiotics and getting better but yesterday she went into heat and broke through the musquito net and went off! i already notified the humane society but what can i expect for her to return to us?? and if she does is it ok to neuter her right away even if she doesnt have her second set of vaccines?
