What all can I buy with student loans?

Can I buy pretty much everything I need/want for school? I'd really like to get a laptop for school because our family computer always gets like viruses and stuff and then needs system recoveries and than all of our junk/files gets deleted. I don't want this to happen when I'm going to school because school is expensive to fail! What are some other things that I should get that you recommend? I appreciate any advice given...I'm the first to attend college in my family.
